The Shamrock Rovers
needed a win to solidify their position on third place and seize the last European
spot available to represent the Aitricity League of Ireland.
After the
CandyStripes tie in Bucrana against Saint Patrick’s Athletic, this win and
three points are welcome by the Hoops Boss Stephen Bradley and ready for the
next edition of the Europa League.
Very well finishing
with a high 54 points and looking forward to next campaign to see if they can
return to their old winning ways and aspire for not only third place but also
the league shield.
After their loss in
the EA Sports Cup to Dundalk, manager Bradley was looking forward to a notable finish
in the campaign and he and his bunch delivered in a win that felt like heaven in
the end.
Playing in what
seemed a resilient and combative Limerick squad looking forward to see the
light of another campaign in the top circuit of Airtrcity, todays match considered
in its entirety as one contested one.
Still the visiting
Super Blues were looking forward to close the campaign with a win.
With good football
and opportunities to open up the score in the first half, the Blues did to
foresaw a Hoops defensive corps stepping up to end the first half tied with both
sides scoreless.
As the second half started,
maybe the way Bradley pumped up his initial eleven it’s when came the local’s reaction
and putting a couple of scores from Brandon Miele in the 53 minute by a penalty
after the visitors captain Shane Duggan committed over the Hoops Dean Carpenter.
With early opportunities
by the Hoops with just a minute of play by Brandon Miele who scored later in the
second half and Simon Madden, still the way the Hoops midfielder came up with
certain hunger to score.
As Brandon Miele that
in the first half had a total of four shoots to two of with defender Simon Madden,
accompanied by Sean Boyd, Cameron King and Dean Carpenter, looking to beat the
posts defended by the Blues keeper Freddy Hall.
For Limerick with a
persistent Chiedozie Ogbene answering with four total shoots followed by his teammate
William Fitzgerald, Henry Cameron, Dean Clark and Walsh O’ Coughlin that scored
for the losing cause.
The local Hoops
scored again in the 58 minute as if they had a feeling that the loclas were
going to score, Ronan Finn beating the visitors keeper Freddy Hall with a shoot
under his legs for the 2-0 score.
The unfortunate side
for the Hoops keeper Kevin Horgan losing the clean sheet when the Blues Boss
Neil McDonald moves paid off, it is when Holland substituting Hall in the posts, these sent a volley that the Hoops defender Ken Carpenter miskick.
The bounce comes to the
feet of the Blues substitute Walsh O’ Coughlin and push the ball for the lone
goal of the visitors in the 81 minute, after that the local’s defensive
backfield delivered and not surrendering any liberties to the visitors.
Stephen Bradley and
his Shamrock Rovers rise to the occasion and closing the campaign with a third
place finish and a trip to represent the League of Ireland in the next UEFA Europa
League.
