For now, the Tartar
Army is holding its breath, to earn a spot at least in the playoffs and see
from there if they can see if their luck can stretch a little more to deliver a
spot for the grand fete of football.
All of a sudden,
Strachan Boys are putting on a fight and not letting go of their aims of making
it happen and they are not stopping now, despite there is already one qualified
squad in their group in neighboring England.
Not this time as they
left out cold in the past Euro qualifiers were they just died on the line and
now they would like to silence everyone cold with a prolific run until the end
and without putting on a fight!
Today’s win in Hampden
Park in Glasgow, the Scots did put on a show and despite the lone goal that
gave them the win and scored by a familiar face in Martin Skrtel thanks to a
pressuring Chris Martin that made a whole world of difference.
Especially for the
Scottish hosts that this points awakens many suppressed dreams these had and now
to focus on their next match looking forward for the three golden points and
more after the feat.
Despite the help from
their Slovakian nemesis, Scotland had all the right moves and near goals from
Griffiths and Martin that almost made this a rout over the visitors.
Still a win is a win
and for manager Strachan it is a well-done job after juggling with an initial
eleven plagued with injuries but his Boys came through and everything going his
way as the visitors saw one of its own booked with a red card in the 23.
That left Slovakia
with just ten men on the pitch and to stop a fighting and persistent Tartars,
their attention went all in defending and stopping its bold arrivals these had
and with the support of their faithful that numbered around 40,000 plus.
After this momentum,
will Scotland finish its exile from international competitions?
Still there is a long
trek to overcome and with adverse results from some squads in other groups of European
competition will be known this coming October 10 the various squads looking
forward to their next step of the coveted playoffs.
Another win can
define for sure the destiny of Scotland but other squads and the number of
points these accumulated, for now these will have to rely on some squads to
lose their upcoming matches, and will decide the whole picture.
At the end, the job
performed by Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is one pristine one and despite
his frustrations in the past qualifiers that saw his squad out of Europe
premier tourney, he has set his sights on Russia 2018.
There is no stopping
them now, and at whatever cost these for sure will try their best to deliver a
spot.
